inside day/night mirror

I have a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country (Touring). The automatic inside day/night is not functioning properly. When on "auto," the mirror is in the dim position during all lighting conditions, including extreme sunshine. When the "auto" funciton is turned off, the mirror returns to it's normal position. I assume it is a sensor problem. Where is the sensor and how do I clean it? Any suggestions?

The mirror senses light on the window side of the mirror, just to the right of center. You should see a hole there.

If you have a sticker or toll/parking pass in front of this it will always think it is dark outside!

If that area is clear, try unplugging the mirror then plugging it in again. That's really all you can do without further diagnostics (dealer).

RE: inside day/night mirror

I was under the impression that the one facing forward was for the auto headlights and the one facing rear (next to the off button) was for the dimming feature if the mirror(s). My 05 has the dimming sensor next to the off button. If I put my finger over it, the mirror does not dim when there are bright lights behind me. The other way I test it is to aim a flashlight at the sensor and watch the mirror dim.

Sounds like the mirror electronics are bad. Can you try to put your finger over the sensor and see if the mirror dimming feature turns off? If so, maybe it's over sensitive.
