This reply will be way too late for Ashley, but might help others.

I'm about to buy a gizmo that plugs into the back of the OEM radio and fools it into thinking that an iPod is a CD changer unit. This means that the iPod is totally controlled by the Radio head unit and steering wheel controls. Will cost me around $180 including shipping (so about Ł110 to Ł120) - iPod not included.

Anyone interested, take a look at this:

Quick question related to this - I will need to remove the console to get at the back of the radio - can anyone tell me how easy it is to do this? Ideally, I'd prefer to leave the radio connected so I don't have to worrt about security codes etc, but also other connectors and vents to consider.

It's actually quite easy. Remove the two blanking plugs at the top of the fascia and behind them are two Philips headed screws which need to be removed. Then, at the bottom of the fascia there's a narrow strip of trim which you need to gently prise off. Behind this there is also two Philips screws which need to be removed. The whole fascia panel then unclipped by prising away from the dash.
The radio is held in by another four Philips screws which, when removed will allow the radio to be withdrawn from the dash and you should be able to get to the back without removing the electrical connectors.
Hope this helps
Regards
Keith
