low-beam headlamp problem 1999 T&C

Hi folks, I have a left low-beam headlamp that will not come on unless I turn on the high-beams. Since the light does come on, I know it's not the bulb or fuse. Is there some sort of relay/switch that I might be able to fix or should I just take it in?

check the bulb first there are 2 different elements that burn in the bulb with high and low if u can get to it swap the bulbs see if the one side still works the same or not if the same side wors the same looking for another issue more advanced if the bulb that did not work also did not work on the other side then =) Bulb

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, I did check the bulb. Swapped a couple to times to make sure. It does come on in highbeam. In other words, the high and low beams both operate in the high-beam "on" position. I did have a mechanic basically say that it was either a relay or switch or wiring. He's our regular mechanic and suggested that it could be something simple if I wanted to try and track it down. Otherwise he would charge me labor, etc. He did concur that it wasn't the bulb. Thanks again. Any other ideas?

a relay i doubt it because u said one works the relay controls both at the same time. Check fuse 6 20amp under your hood that is the left low beam headlight fuse. Switch no because like i said b4 the right side works just fine. Here is the part from the pdc to the headlights if u need more then that which i doubt because only one headlamp doed not work.

Great diagram!!! I agree, it must be either fuse 6 or something down that line(connector, wire). Thanks! I'll check it when I get home today.

ok, further info. I was wrong. It's a 98 T&C. Also, the light doesn't come on even in the high beam on situation. I swapped the bulb with the known good bulb and also swapped the fuse mentioned with a known good fuse. Is the 98 the same as a 99 for this diagram? Any other ideas? I also checked the wiring around the headlamp and it seems to be in good condition. Any other ideas?

96 - 2000 pretty much the same maybe different wire colors but same body style. Now u say the high beams and low beams dont come on right? If thats the case then here is the hard part on u ence u dont have access to a DRB scanner u wont be able to tell if the Switch is sending the signal to the BCM or if the BCM is telling the lights to come on. Cheap route for u replace the headlight switch and see if it works does good yeah if not then u have a BCM/Junctio block issue I have seen it a few times and replaced both. Another hard part about that is knowing if the BCM or junction block is the issue thats why I replace them as a pair because the BCM attaches right to the junction block like u plug a lamp right into the wall U can test the signal if its comming out of the bcm and going through the junction block then out to the lighs. Here is what U dont want to hear..... if the switch does not take care of it then u are looking at 900 or more to replace the BCM and junction block plus labor to install it. Hope its the switch .

Thanks for your help. Let me restate the problem. I think it's getting confused.

My left low beam doesn't come on. I've replaced the bulb and fuse with a known good fuse and bulb and checked the wiring around the bulb. All other lights work fine. I think I'm just going to have to take it in because I don't have the right tools to go further, unless you have any more ideas that are easy to try. thanks again
