motor tap

I have a 2000 Town and Country, 3.8 engine. When the engine is cold there is a tap, sounds like from the top, it only does this when the motor is cold, once is war there is no noise. What is causing this?

CHRYSLER TECH 01-21-2012 07:51 AM

low oil or lifters not having oil up top its basically a lifter not being pumped up.

merrellj 01-21-2012 08:12 AM

oil level is good, so a new oil pump?

CHRYSLER TECH 01-21-2012 11:06 AM

Did i say anything about an oil pump??
AN oil pump does not get batter as it warms up

U have a lifter issue or an oil filter not allowing oil to stay at the top of the engine

how would a oil filter get better as the motor warms up

Wynns Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment

throw in a bottle of that, that will help cure it.will clean all the oil ways

They don't. It has to do with the fact that alot of cheap aftermarket oil filters have an ineffective anti drain valve or don't have one at all. This allows oil to drain out of the filter and the top end of the engine back to the sump. If you are using mopar filters or a good quality aftermarket filter then this usually does not happen.

This would be the 3rd time I have pointed out this is a lifter prob and things like cheap oil filter low oil or a bad lifter could be the cause to this issue Please read the info I have given and think about what U ask or say b4 U post it.
Thanks brroke23 I hate repeating myself more then 2x
