Newly rebuilt transmission, but still whines?
Got our transmission rebuilt at 120k, we have about 150k on it now. Since then, it's started to really whine, and has for months and months. It isn't getting worse, and nothing has failed yet. I almost think it's the power steering pump, because it changes pitch when you turn the wheel, and may even get a little louder as you twitch the wheel back and forth at a stop sign or something.
It does have an engine light on. The codes have been for emissions stuff, mostly. One time, at autozone, it checked for a "trans module" something or another. I couldn't get it to read that the next time the light was on. I'm only asking now because we have a 1000 mile trip coming up, and i'd love to get rid of the whine before we leave in a month, just for the peace of mind. What can I check, without replacing random parts? Thanks. |
Fill the PS fluid about 1/4 inch from the top with AFT4 trans fluid

thanks
I'll check that power steering fluid, again. ;)
Anything else to consider? |
The pump
|
ok
So you need it's the steering pump, and not transmission related? That's my "bottom line" question in this post.
Thanks. |
because it changes pitch when you turn the wheel, a transmission will not change sounds when u turn the wheel
