Oil light
 

Hi Guys.
When I start my 05 2.8TD the oil light takes a while to go out. Any ideas as to what it can be.

I would be likely to find the sensor, clean connections then try again. If still the same try new sensor. If still the same just hope it doesn't stay on.
Then I'm thinking is there a spring loaded oil pressure valve in this engine, might be in oil pump thou..

My 2001 2.5 CRD used to take about 5secs for the oil light to go out after starting... did that for 5yrs without any problems

0 / 5 / 10 / 15 or 20 ? and when was it last changed ? For example if it was ok in the summer, but not now suggests your engine is 10 or 15 or even that your good original good choice of 5W-30 fully synth oil is now so old its thick in the winter. A 3 or 4 second wait after being parked for a night or 5 draining down, although not good on a high mileage car won't kill anything for example. Best of luck.

Just for info; on a 2004 2.5CRD the oil pressure Relief Valve is 5066 816AA. Spring 5093 915AA. O Ring 5066 887AA. But big but is, it looks like the sump pan has to come off. Placement of oil pump is at front of engine opposite crank journal from Vacuum pump. These all at back of Cam Belt and main pulley sorry to say. So if you think of it in your mind the pressure relief valve is between pump and oil filter on underside of engine block..
So the prologue of this story is..As someone says...If it ain't broke forget about it.
Unless your doing a full engine rebuild of course.

Thanks for the reply's 87k on the clock. I change the oil twice a year Summer/Winter I think its 10/40 oil.
I will try to change the oil sensor once the weather allows.

Faulty oil filter?
Those things can fail too and and are easy and cheap to replace :)

You think its 10/40 oil maybe the answer. Don't forget that manufacturers spend loads of dosh on making up, via an oil producer, an oil to suit their engines. An oil that doesn't form sludge in operation for example. So I'm sure someone will give you guidance on here regarding the oil to use, Semi or full Synthetic. Look back the threads and you'll get the answer or try the oil producers website by adding your reg or van.

If the engine is a 2.8 CRD I would go for 5W30 Full Synth. My 2.5 CRD runs perfect on it with long lasting OCI

Yes gives a return on this after you change your oil and don't forget the oil filter. Might be of interest.
