Oil, Water problem
Hi everyone, I've just bought myself a 2004 Grand Voyager 2.8 CRD LTD XS and i love it, it has a few minor probs with it that i can fix as and when i get time, but there is 1 problem i have found that is worrying me a bit :(
I have found oil in the cooling system expansion tank, i have searched the site and think it is the oil cooler which can be bypassed temporarily, i'm just after a bit of clarification really, could it be another problem or is this likely to be the only reason oil would be in the water, and where is the oil cooler situated. TIA ;) |
broken head gasket?
|
Head gasket could be gone, but it's not unheard of for the oil cooler to fail causing oil to leak into the coolant.
The oil cooler is up behind the engine......the oil filter screws onto it. |
Thanks for quick replies. I have no water in the oil, no overheating and no smoke at all if this helps?
Is the head gasket a big and expensive job. |

Is the head gasket a big and expensive job. I'm afraid the Head gasket is a fairly big job. Depends on weather or not you choose to replace the timing belt while you're at it (it has to come off to get the cylinder head off) and if the head needs skimmed, but you'd have to budget maybe £500 minimum at an independent and maybe £1000 or more at the dealer. By the way, how many miles has it done? |
cheers for info booke, it has done 142,000 mls.
I've just bypassed the oil cooler and flushed the cooling system gonna see how it goes for a couple of weeks, obviously there will still be oil residue in cooling system but a few flushes should get rid |
