P0740 - 2002 Chr Town & Country
 

Hello!

We just took our 2002 T&C to AAMCO and they said the engine light was on with a code of:
P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

They said as a high guestimate about 2000 dollars. And that is WAY over anything I have.

I wanted to know would it be better just to get a new Transmission Torque Converter?

My thoughts are it would be less time for diagnosing the issue and then fixing the issue. Better to just replace it?

Or could it even be something simpler?

The wife drives it mainly and she does not notice any problems when it shifts. She drives on a highway every day to get to work and back home.

She said she occasionally 'feels' something when she first starts the car up in the morning and backs out of the driveway.

Someone suggested we have the fluid flushed out to see if it is chunky at all and see if that resolves the problem.

So that is next on our checklist.

Did AAMCO troubleshoot it beyond just reading a code? There is a test procedure to determine the problem.

As "someone" suggested I would drop the pan and check for chunks. It's a cheap first move that can reveal a big clue. If chunks are there, you have no recourse but a tranny/TC rebuild or replacement.

Zero experience with it but from reading forums for years the solenoid pack is a frequent fix. The TCC solenoid is in the pack. Around $300 parts and labor.

Chrysler Tech....if that is the case, can i just have it replaced, or do i have to get a whole new transmission as most of the shops are saying?

if the converter is coming apart then the pan is more then likely full of crap to which the whole trans is also full of it if U get it don't right now u can get away with a rebuild if u let it go much longer it will start to eat away everything inside out.
