Parking brake failure
 

I own a 2002 T&C 3.3L

I took in in because the parking brake has completely failed. I had entire rear braking system replaced: drums, shoes, cylinders. Parking break still does not work. The mechanic suggested that it is possible there is not an adjuster meaning the cables will have to be replaced.

Any advice or suggestions asto what the problem may be would be greately appreciated. Thanks

u had everything but the parking brake stuff replaced. what about the cable is it tight
what about the handle it is working?

I looked under the dash, the cable from the foot pedal seems tight, traced the cable along the drivers side until it splits (runs along the fuel tank) all seems tight to the drum passengers side seems tight all the way into the drum. The foot pedal operates as it had before this point-starts to "click" part way to the floor. I observed the operation both from under the dash as well as under the vehicle. Everything seems fine-cables move and seem to tighten etc. There is (for lack of a better way to describe it) a bracket where the cable from the pedal attaches to the cable that splits to the drums-everything seems tight. By "tight" I mean there seems to be no sagging of the cable.

Yes, the rear bakes are completely new, nothing having to do with parking brake.

Is there an adjuster, and if not can a reasonabally intelligent, reasonabally mechanically inclined person repair/replace the cables?

they are rear drum or rear disk?

they are drum

so u had the rear brakes replaced by yourself or some one did it? if U paid some one then they did not tighten up the stuff correctly take it back to them to have it done right if U did it same thing.

Could it also be the self adjuster ratchet sticking/not working, so the handbrake may be working, but because the self adjuster isn't rathceting up, you just not getting enough pressure on the drum to hold the car?
