Got my third Grand Voyager in November last year 2017. Had a few issues cold starting over Christmas. However in January we had major snow and I mean major snow.

The problem was slowly getting worse so I decided it was time to change the Glow plugs. I bought 4 Bosch Glow plugs £88 for 4 and was getting ready to change them. When I removed the cover, however I noticed that No 1 ejector was in fact leaking and from the build up of oil and carbon it was clear it had been leaking for some time.

I therefore decided to get the car started to see if there was any sign of a leak and sure enough when the engine was running you could see air blowing against the solidified oil.

It was clear that the pressure was an issue and changing the glow plug would not solve the issue. I therefore had the garage remover the injector for inspection and thankfully it turned out that it was only the copper washer that had failed.

Copper washer replaced and car starts prefect every time. However i did have the glow plugs changed as well seeing as I'd already bought them

Yes this is normal problem , I change mine after 230000km 2 out of 4 was leaking and no 1 injector was stuck . Took a weile to pull it out course it had to high leak back so needed to be changed. (it cut out on low rail pressure)
So did drive another 250000km and pull them again just to be sure and there was no problem of course change the washer again and now it has done 520000km still going strong only the clutch has been change 3 times . Springes in the clutch seams to brake.

 

I suspect the root cause for leaking washer is becourse the injector is getting bad . and cumbustion temp is changing , pull a few injectors and offen the tip look like it has been very hot .
So your problem could be early stage bad injector spray pattern , and course engine to be difficult to start even that the glow plugs is working .

There must not be any white unburnt smoke when starting , if any and your glowplugs working the injectors is bad.

 

And of course that washer should be annealed so Injector bites into it when tightened up...

Don't think any workshop dos this , but it's the right way (craftman way) . Not many workshops has the pride to do this , excuse could be Hotwork or we are to bussy .

 

I used to do it on 2700hp 12cylinder mainline diesels. Used the old rings, faced them on emery paper, cherry red heated, quenched and ready to fit...Mind you they were bigger.
