Question on programming for wheel/tire sizing...
Hello All...
I am looking to slightly oversize my wheels/tires from the original 215/65/16 sizing. I cannot find an aftermarket programmer to adjust the computer for this change. Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences to share? Thanks in advance!! |

Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences to share? Thanks in advance!! The current size gives (mathematically anyway) a total tyre diameter of 27 inches. I know my speedometer over-reads by about 7% (reads about 75mph when doing 70mph as checked by GPS) - this means it would be possible to increase the tyre diameter to just under 29 inches, and all it would do would be to make your speedo more accurate. Above this, and you are potentially breaking the law (in the UK anyway). Don't know how much spare clearance there is for larger wheels. |
Try this:
http://www.exploroz.com/Vehicle/Tyres/SizeCalc.aspx The comparison calculator is handy - put in your current size and the size you want. If the rolling diameter increases by less than about 7% (though would be worth checking your own speedo against a satnav), then you don't need to do anything else to the speedo. I assume you are putting the same size all round. |
