RB-1 GPS Oddity??

We vacationed in PA last week and took a trip from Lancaster to view the sites at Gettysburg. We used the GPS in the van to make sure we got there alright. We spent several wonderful hours there, and began our return. To our amazement the GPS gave us directions to return an entirely different way than we had come.....and the return trip which was different was 35 miles longer, around your elbow, and out of the way???? Could someone please explain the difference. Additionally, when we returned from PA to our home, it once again took us an entirely different way than we went. It would appear the GPS directions on a return trip would just be the opposite of our going trip?

Maybe it depends on how you have it set. if for faster time, maybe they have traffic patterns that suggest longer times back the same route? but 35 miles seems way off.

I've got a Garmin that does dumb things sometimes. It seems to want to avoid back roads and side streets and send you on routes that are way longer than necessary. Other times it routes you off the expressway and immediately back on because the ramp is on the inside of a curve that cuts 10 feet off the trip.
Use with caution.
