Strange Starting Problem
 

2002 T & C LXI 3.8 V6 Problem started 1 week ago, turn the key to the start position, nothing happens, turn key to start position and press the gas pedal down starter turns and engine starts. Gas pedal must be depressed and key in start position to engage starter.

Additional information: Pulled 2 codes P1684 and P0601 tested battery and replaced battery, was told the battery was bad, and that low voltage may have been causing the problem. Made no difference. Same situation, must depress gas pedal with key in start position to engage starter.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Update: A general mechanic friend says that the problem is related to the anti-theft immobilizer system (small red dot on upper dash) . Under closer diagnoses it seems if you turn the key to on the small red dot comes on but does not turn off, but if you push down on the accelerator pedal the red dot goes off, and you can then turn the key to start and the starter will engage, and allow the engine to start.

But, he says it it probably the computer causing this strange problem. Of course there are 3 on board computers.

Any help? I really need some here.

FYI, the P0601 is an internal PCM fault. There is no other cause for this other than the PCM, you need to start there. However this doesn't mean there isn't another fault in the PCM system. It may not have the capability to tell you anything else because there is an internal fault. Let us know what happens.

Another FYI, you have more than 3 computers in your van. Body Controller, PCM, TCM, ABS, AIRBAG, Left and Right Door modules, Power Sliding Door Module 1 or 2, Wireless Control Module (Security), Power Liftgate Module, Keyless Entry Module, Heated/Memory Seat Module, Your HVAC is also a module as is your Radio. ....LOL...and your van is just a 2002. You should see the newer stuff! If your guy thinks there are only 3 then maybe you need to get someone else to do the repairs.
