T&C 3.8 oil and tranny slow leak, but only in winter time!
While I'm spilling my gutts out, I'd like to mention the little leaks I have. Last winter my tranny started a slow leak, same with my oil.....but the oil is a really really slow leak, maybe a couple drops in a week. The tranny fluid is a quite a bit more.
I figured out where the tranny was leaking, and its coming from the selenoid pack. I bought the pack back then, and held off till it was warmer to replace it. Summer came and it stopped leaking, so i never replaced it. Here comes winter again, and once the warm temps went, the leak came back! Both leaks! The oil, no biggie, really slow leak, but the tranny drops quite a bit more. I'll be replacing the transmission pack, but maybe when it warms up again. :( I'll keep checking fluid level, make sure theres enough in there. Has anyone had this kind of leak? Any suggestions? thanks again, byran |
I had the tranny leak at the solenoid pack, I did not make the connection to winter temperatures but did notice the leak was worse recently and we are in winter - maybe that's just coincidental. Anyway I replaced the pack and the leak is gone.
I have a slight oil leak from the valve cover and replaced the PCV valve to see if that goes away. I also checked the valve cover bolts torque. I have not checked that leak again since its been too bloody cold here. |
I've seen older cars like to leak worse in the winter due to expansion/contraction from being hot than cold (much worse in the winter.) The gasket has deteriorated and can't handle the shrinkage from the cold weather. Nothing too new, just time for a new gasket.
