Tire Pressure Sensors
 

I have a 2008 T & C with about 50,000 miles.
Valve stems are in pretty rough shape; threads mostly shot, etc. but until today tires were holding air well and sensors seemed to be functioning properly.
Right rear tire looked a bit low this a.m. and after removing the cap and putting some air to it I found that the inner "stem" wasn't fully reseating and a steady stream of air was leaking out.
I don't any need (or affection) for the pressure monitoring system and would like to avoid the expense of returning the system to factory specs.
Is it possible to have a standard stem installed? Other options? I want the easiest and cheapest way possible to hold air in my tires.

Interesting road to the solution of this problem. My first thought was to try a new stem core. Off to the local NAPA dealer where I was told, "Forget it. Nothing you can do. Has to be a dealer or well equipped tire store. Gonna cost you big bucks. Sorry."
Called the local Chrysler dealership. "We'll run a basic diagnostic for $99.00 IF you're the original owner. (which I'm not) Then add parts and labor on top of that."
Nearby Tire Warehouse said, "Maybe $20.00 if it's just a gasket or gromet. $60.00 to $100 if the sensor needs to be replaced."
So I headed off to T.W. After explaining the situation the guy says, "Let's take a look. He grabs a spray bottle of soapy water, a new stem core, and a stem core wrench." Pulled out the old core which appeared to be plugged with some old tire sealer, put in the new one, and said "There you go."
How much do I owe you? Nothing. Guess where I'll be going for my next set of tires.....:D
