Tranny servicing

Checking out all the posts and the "guns" suggest servicing the transevery 30K, is this a DIY job or one for the pro's? Is it a simple matter of dropping the pan, changing the filter, reinstalling the pan with gasket sealant and then filling her up or is this wishful thinking? Just curious beacuse the last service cost me NZ$ 275 which equates to about US$190 !

Thanks

yeah thats a bit high u can do it if u want the filter is oo 3o bucks fluid chrsler ATF+4 5 to 6 quarts is 70 bucks and RTV for the gasket. 15 bucks so i would guess around 120 in parts maybe less.

We charge $90 for Chrysler ATF+4 tansflush. We hook into a cooler line and let the trans pump pump out all the old fluid while the machine pumps new in. It gets all the fluid out of the torque converter, cooler, lines, and pan. Granted it's not the filter getting changed, but it's more fluid out than just dropping the pan.

Yeah we do the fluid flush thing as well but we charge more :) sorry to say but yeah
you could probably pick up some after market stuff a bit cheaper but dont go to cheap becouse you get what you pay for remember that. the ATF is the pricey part of the job

Appreciate the info, I read some of the posts and they mention the "Fluid replacement machine" as you describe and that it can berisky as some foreign matter can get pushed into places where it shouldnt be and then cause all sorts of issues like a stuffed tranny! So is it safe or are the horror stories exagerated!

Horror story exagerated as far as I know. I've been doing it for 3 years professionally and I've done it on all 5 of our vehicles with out a problem. Our 6th one is a stick so it's just drain and fill. No filters

Chrysler 300 tranny

I have a 2006 Chrysler 300. I have a transmission dipstick that was pushed too far into the trans and is stuck. If I remove the transmission pan will I be able to see enough to fish it out from the bottom?

Thanks.

and 06 300 should need the external dip stick not one that comes with it
