trans filter?? or flush??

I bought my 02 t&c last year with 117K, now 18 months later at 130K I want to service the tranny, I don't know if the previous owner ever serviced it, they had some of the service receipts and it looked like it was up to date with everything, but not sure about the tranny. I'm NOT expierencing any problems and I want to avoid any.

questions are; Pan drop(filter and 5 or 6 quarts)??? or flush(probably a job for the dealer$$$)??

any special things I need to do IF i want to do only the pan drop(i'm aware of the atf4 fluid) OE filter?? is after market filter ok???

Aftermarket filter is fine, I believe it takes 5.5 quarts to drop the pan. Chrysler recommends NOT FLUSHING these units...so Save your time and money.

I will tell you one warning However....

Disconnect the battery BEFORE dropping the pan.....It will save you the heartache of the quicklearn procedure....

The one thing I regret doing is having my tranny filter and oil replaced - no flush. This was done at 120k, since then multiple tranny problems. Hard shifting, slipping, not holding overdrive etc. Done at dealer with genuine parts and Chrysler ATF+4 or whatever $$$ stuff they used.

I finally did this, it went easy, it shifts smooth, but I think i'm getting the same problem as above, the overdrive not holding, I only drove it a couple of miles, and also noticed that when braking i feel a little bump when speed goes under 30 mph.
Is this all part of the relearning time? I disconected the battery as I was told to do.

its better you get it checked by the dealer i too had faced the same problem but it got is solved with the dealer.

I'm just guessing, but I think the van was trying to relearn how and when to shift up and/or down as well as when to go in od. It's running great as always now, now issues, it only took her a couple of days
