My transmission tech says its the computer. All of a sudden when i was at lowes went to leave the check engine light came on and then the trans was stuck in 1st gear. Here is my question.

Trans tech says it needs a new computer total being $550 and says it needs to be programed.

Can i not buy one used or new already programed for my van?
Anyone else have this prob?

 

Forgot to mention its a 01 voyager.

 

i would say speed sensors 25 each i bet teh code was gear ratio in 1st erro right??? some trans tech geee.

 

Ill call them today and ask what the code was. Said something about the hard drive failing.

ok that would be a computer now depends if u have it in the TCM or PCM which one to replace.

 

He said pcm. Will i have to program it like he said or should it come already programed? Where can i find this computer?

 

my tranny computer went nuts at about 45mph... dropped from O/D to second gear... talk about whip-lash, luckily was not going faster... i might have needed some teeth replaced... took the dealership about three weeks and I don't remember how much $ to figure out the prob...

 

On the 2001 RS mini-van the PCM is part the TCM too. When you replace TCM you are also replacing the PCM too. You will need to flash the controller if you buy a reman..... And you need transfer the pin code for your car keys too.

 

How hard is this to do?
