I suspected there would be control issues here. Microprocessor programs can be different even if the mechanical stuff is identical. Datacoms between processors can also be a different format, different speed. Because manufacturers don't always tell you about minor changes, even the same item, same make model, year etc. cannot be guaranteed to be "swappable". It's very much a 'suck-it-and see' process, which may involve you in hundreds of man-hours work plus a lot of money, with no guarantee of a result at the end. This is why a processor board usually has a "software version number" on it -- this applies universally, not just modern motor vehicles.
So Nighthawk, if your present box is faulty/worn, it might make more sense to fix it if the vehicle is worth it.
