Transmission Problem?
 

Hi,

I have an '07 T & C. As I was driving to work this morning all of a sudden the engine light came on and the van wouldn't shift gears. It seemed like it was stuck in 2nd gear. I drove to the nearest gas station and checked the tranny fluid. It was still dark so it was hard to see the level on the dipstick. It did look low so I added some fluid and the van started shifting smoothly again. I drove the 35 miles to work without a problem but the engine light remained on.

Does this van have a sensor that would trigger the engine light if the tranny fluid gets low? I just don't want to take it somewhere and be charged just to be told that is was low on fluid and everything is fine.

I would disconnect the the negative battery cable for a minute or two to clear the codes. If the light returns head to an AutoZone or the like. They will connect a scanner and read the codes for free. Fluid has to be hot and check it with the engine running. Use only ATF+4 fluid.

how about get the codes first then ease them because if u erase them b4 u know what they are then when it comes back on which it will u will never know if this is a new issue or the same one.
If this is an issue that is intermittent the light will go out on its own as well.

X2. Don't just make the light go away. Key on off on off on without starting the car and you can read the codes in the odometer. You might want to find that transmission leak too.

Would definitely check the stored codes before erasing them. The light illuminated for a reason and should be verified before damage occurs.

just to reiterate the point get the codes checked first. if it were me personally i wouldn't drive the vehicle any farther than absolutely necessary to avoid doing unintentional damage to your tranny
