voyager 2.0 petrol black smoke & missfiring! 1998
 

hi everyone, just bought another 1998 voyagerwhich has a few problems & wondered if you guys could shed some ideas of what could be wrong:
Car starts but missfires & has black soot coming out of exhaust. will run with throttle but still miss fires,won't tick over as that is down to about 450 revs. Had new spark plugs but they come out completely sooted. Also had throttle position senser. Next thing service light on dash & wiper switches are flashing. Well thats it "for now" i hope, love these cars so maybe some one can help. Many thanks graham

I would suspect the fuel pressure regulator is gone bad.
