Voyager 2001 CRD Frozen Fuel Filter?
 

Hi, can anyone please help with the following:- my wife has a 2001 Voyager 2.5 CRD.
During the recent weather temp has dropped to -13 and the car starts but only idles, if you rev the car it stalls. Keeping it in the garage seems to solve the problem and drives fine.
Can someone tell me how to replace the fuel filter I think there is water in it which is freezing up. I think it is at the back and looks straight forward. Any ideas I do not have a manual? Thanks in advance

Fuel filter is underneath the car at the back.....jack it up at the back and crawl in from the rear bumper....you can't miss it.

Incorporated into the fuel filter bowl is a fuel heater which heats it to about 20 degrees C. So if there is frozen water in there the heater should melt it (eventually).

The filter is the removable element type. There is also a tap to drain off water (although the light on the dash should come on if water is present). I change the filter every year and it is always covered in black scum even though we do fairly low mileage.

Spoke to Halfords they do not stock fuel filters for the Voyager.

No, I got it at my local motor factors. They had to order it in but only took a day or so.

eurocarparts.com stock it, but it's a bit pricey from there. You'll find one on ebay for a reasonable price, but if you need it in a hurry then you'll probably have to go to the dealer. (probably still cheaper than eurocarparts - £22!!)

Hi. I own GV CRD 2001.

Just to share tips got from my mechanic.

1 - With your key in the ignition, turn to ON position for a few seconds. (DO NOT START) - You might hear the diesel pump/heater sound working.

2 - When all lights on dashboard turn off, back to OFF position again. Repeat this few times before you actually turn to START.

Reason: this will give some time for the diesel flow properly.
Though additive added to diesel, it might become like jelly. Giving some time for the heater to work might do the trick.

Caution : Do not start repeatedly in freezing condition as electronics part won't function at its best below freezing point and you might damage/drain out your battery and ECU. This seldom happen for those park in their garage.

May be worth using Grotamar (search the forum, it's mentioned a couple of times) to stop bacteria growing in the tank - that may be the scum you are getting.
