Voyager won't start- ECU low voltage?
 
Hi, I need help!

I have a 2005 Grand Voyager XS limited 3.3l auto box.

This past week, the car suddenly wont start. It has been to 2 separate independent garages who have checked all of the fuses, fuel pump, relays etc and all appears to be fine.

What they did say was that the voltage of the ECU was low (which would fit in with the error on the car dashboard which was that the ASD relay had a low voltage). But they have looked at the ASD and it appears to be fine.

My question is has anyone had a similar experience, my local Chrysler/Jeep dealer (Yorkshire) cant fit me in for a diagnostic alone for 3 weeks which is a nightmare as I am really struggling without the car!

Funny enough the first time this happened the car wouldn't start in a supermarket car park, I got the spare key and it started straight away. Next day the car wouldn't start at all with any key and hadn't done since.... I'm being told the ECU voltage is low, that this could be the reason why. But thinking about it, the first time it happened it did just spring to life as soon as I used the spare key....

Does this sound like the ECU, does anyone know of anyone who can look at it and fix and any indication of cost? Any recommendations will be most appreciated.

It sounds like a voltage issue regarding your battery. Does your engine turn over quit spritely when turning key to start. Then what is the voltage in your battery before starting. Followed by charging voltage if it starts. How old is your battery. The thing is it might not be holding voltage so when starter is applied voltage drops and engine run valve is not operated. Sorry valve applies to 2750 HP diesels but valve here means the ancillaries like ignition feed coils etc..

Hi, the battery is 6 months old and has been checked as OK by e local garage. Yes, when turning over I would say it does fire quite spritely, but just doesn't start up...

Would a skim problem cause the engine not to fire at all, or would it start a few times then cut off?

Do you have a spark at the plugs is one first check on petrol engine.

I've got something here on Auto Shutdown Relay. Accociated with high resistance to fuel pump.

IMO. What a DIYer can can't do himself, the SKI instructs the ASD

Can do - SKIM SCREEM, pull the NEG battery cable for 16 minutes. The Chrysler Smart Key Immobiliser's job is to activate the Automatic ShutDown Immobiliser Relay if it thinks the car is stolen. You could have a code stored and permanent or stored and non-permanent pulling the NEG [can-do] will clear codes on the non-permanent.

If its a permanent code you will need someone with a good scanner [can't do] to clear the code for you then see if it resurfaces on 'known good starts'. If it persists then its between your FOB's door and wiring and the SCREEM. Best of luck.

Check the obvious [Car battery & FOB Battery] and reboot the puter[s]. The previously flat battery might well have been recharged or even fully charged, this is no longer of any value as the codes weren't cleared after the ASD came into action, in most cases a charger will be clamped to the terminals while in circuit rather than off circuit so all systems will have remained active and unchanged.

The car knows the coded key and sees it as legit once entered into the IGN so the gearstick can come out of lock and the starter motor can be activated but previously active ASD will stop it firing up. We are both thinking the same Goggsy - just a different approach to it. I see it as not allowed to start at all [code] you see the same thing as [key] runs for a couple of minutes and cut out. Steviec2000 can do this test and let the group know the outcome, most of the ASD errors caused by flat battery's clear on 'known good' starts, many others need a scanner to clear and re-test. Bloody puters eh !.
