Is it "worth it" to buy a Navigation DVD disc?
 

I just purchased a 2005 T&C Limited with the Navigation and DVD system, but of course, with no Navigation DVD. :-( I see that NAVTEQ will sell me a new one for $199 and I have found used ones for ~$60 on EBay.

So is this navigation system "worth it"? We have a Garmin unit which we occasionally use and it does a good job of estimating our arrival times, but the usability isn't great - acceptable though. $60 for a decent system is something I'd be willing to pay.

So any thoughts? Good system? Average system? Worthless?

Having just paid out £40 (about $50 these days?) I would say no. For what I got, it is pretty basic and a real pain to have to reload the CD everytime I want to set up a new route. Perhaps the US CD is better than the UK offering, but I don't know.

I have an old Tom Tom Go 300 which is much better and easier to "drive". However, it *is* nice to have a clear windscreen and no trailing 12v wires now, I guess, so there's pro's and con's

For NAV, you'll be better off getting a $100 unit every 2 years. Replace the radio head unit with something you like and can use.

Those built in nav systems are archaic to say the least, especially something from 2005.
For the same money as the new DVD (or a bit more) you can get a Tom Tom with lifetime map updates. I have used almost every brand of portable GPS in the last 10 years and I prefer Tom Tom by far. Whatever you do never buy a Magellan, they really suck and after sales support is non existent. Garmin is a good system and easy to use.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I'll keep an eye out for one "on the cheap", but it doesn't sound like the $60 asking price is "worth it" to me.
