yet another issue (losing water)

Hi again

its seems its never ending, i have had the thermostat replaced in January and yesterday i noticed the temp gauge getting very high. Istopped and checked the water levels and the water bottle was empty, then drove 6 miles home looked again and the water bottle was empty, any ideas as i cannot see any leaks

Regards

John

If you are positive there are no leaks, the classic cause of coolant loss is a ruptured cyl. head gasket/warped head. Sometimes the exhaust appears very steamy. In my time I've had a few motors with that problem. If you've had a boil-up recently (overheating) a ruptured head gasket is often the result.
But check that coolant loss isn't INSIDE the car, i.e. from heater plumbing.
A trick to get you home in an emergency is to loosen the filler-cap so there is no coolant pressure, but this doesn't last long.
Also, a pin-hole leak in a rubber hose can easily be missed, and the above trick has quite an effect on this. If the thermostat has been recently changed, pay partic. attention to the job done for leaks under pressure.

I have noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust. I filled it up last night done about 10 miles today and still where the level was when I filled it. It's got to go in Monday for paintwork to be done so they will hopefully sort all the issues as under warranty

she heard a metal grinding noise

prob a water pump going bad thats the only moving part of the coolant system and if u have a 2001-2005 they are common to leak

Ahhh thermostat replaced, that rings a bell in my ears...I replaced my thermostat and was happy with the job but when I took it for an MOT a month later the examiner mentioned a leak at rear of engine. Yes right enough it was coming from the thermostat join. I had cleaned the join perfect too, but did notice that the new join was very thin on wall thickness. Did I do job again, remove all pipework, etc., did I hell, I just gave it Rad Weld medicine and its been ok for months now...
