2000 Cirrus Keeps blowing fuse #5
 

:confused: Just got the car today. No interior light, no radio no power locks and check engine light on and car wont go over 40 miles/hour.

Replace bad fuse #5 and fuse blows as soon as inserted with ignition key out

Insert scan tool to check check engine light and the can tool is not getting power to it. wont work

Drive the car and BCM is activating door locks at 15 miles/hour as it should

Is this a bad BCM?? Is the BCM attached to the fuse block on driver side ?

get a wire diagram and trace down all of what is on fuse #5

Well, following the wire harness for fuse #5 (IOD) is not that easy. I dont beleive that the short is related to that circuit. The BCM is completely dead, no heartbeat, scan tool not working, power door lock non working as well. Is it possible that the BCM is powered by the IOD circuit and the BCM is the short? Has anyone else seen this issue? If I have it on this car, I am sure it is not unique. :)

the #5 IOD yeas has part BCM,all inside lights,data link connector,glove box, trunk,radio and ac control head. AS i said trace it down unplug things one by one with a hand full of fuses so get a ohm meter brake the circuits up and see what half the short to ground is on this is not a simple oo oo I know what that is u are gonna haft to put some work into it or pay some one.

Yes I agree it is no an easy job to trace cable mostly because the haynes book is not very specific about this circuit.Unless I get a shop manual, I dont have access to the wiring diagram.

So, Chrysler tech, can the BCM be the cause? Did you ever see a BCM going short? I want to make sure that I am not tracing cables for no reasons. I pulled the radio, the lighter, the dome light, no change still blowing IOD fuse. I dont have a trunk light nor glove box light. I will check AC next. The bus between BCM and ECU is only 2.5 vlts. Not enough to blow a 10 amp fuse. What next? Is the cluster also on the IOD fuse? How about steering column? Does the IOD circuit feeds anything under the hood such as runnig day lights? I phone a dealership yesterday to see if I can get the shop manual for an hour. Guess what the response was....

why dont u unplug the bcm a dealer wont give out shop manuals they pay 150 or more for them now everything is online via Chrysler.

OK. Chrysler tech. Pardon my ignorance, where are the wiring schematics online at the Chrysler web site? :confused: I will rmove the BCM and see if the fuse still pop. Mean time, what is the other black module (smaller than BCM) on the fuse distribution box? Is that the Tranny module? I hope it is not air bag....

U cant get to them u need to work for Chrysler to get that site
RKE module the tranny is under the hood.

Well, really bleed on this one. After taking all internal lights out and pulling the electrical harness and spending 6 hours on it I found the short! FOR ALL of you who may find yourself in the same boat, the fix was a short inside the AC module bellow the radio. At the back of the AC control module, there are two connectors. Disconnect the smaller 9 pin connectors and that is the fix! The short was on the circuit board that has the lights on it


Now that I have the BCM working, I was able to pull the code! P700. When I first put it in gear, she goes fine to second but after it is warmed up, it stay in first gear. Any ideas on this one??:confused::confused:
