95 cirrus won't start
 

95 cirrus, 110k miles. started car, left running to warm up, was stalled when i came back out to leave. won't start.
what i know: fuel pump is running.
Plugs were checked, oil in tubes. This was cleaned out and plugs replaced. Timing belt appears to have been replaced.
They checked distributor and rotor, cleaned up and put back. Looked ok
It has spark.
Compression very low.

It hasn't had much heat, thermostat probably needs to be replaced. I read somewhere that another person had no start problem and it turned out being the thermostat was bad and it wouldn't circulate antifreeze so car wouldn't start. Does that make sense at all?
Any ideas?

More info: it cranks but won't start. Ether didn't work.

o2 sensor taken off, didn't start.

Engine size..?????
I would do absolutely NOTHING else until the cause of Low compression is pinpointed......

From experience, Temp gauges DO NOT read correctly unless they are IMMERSED in coolant...which means you could have Overheated it and not even Known about it ....(Stuck T-stat or a coolant leak that you havent noticed until it emptied out) .......Which could easily lead to head gasket failure if left unattended.

Passenger side of the car, on the Timing belt cover is a round plastic plug, about 1 " in diameter...Pop it out, and you will see the timing gears thru the hole. Have an assistant crank the engine while you observe the gears thru the hole....Do they turn????

A stuck T-Stat, in no way shape or form will stop a car from starting, but the end result will.....

Mechanics said they checked timing belt and it was good.
Can't get an engine code to throw. They are at a loss.
