1999 Voyager brake problem

Going along the motorway at a steady 50 mph when suddenly for no reason the car came to a halt just as though I had braked, but had not. This was very scary & resulted in a minor accident. Has anyone any comments on this or is there a known problem.

its not a brake issue the brakes are mechanical and U wold haft to press on them to work they dont just stop by them self.
Did the engine stop running or the tranny lock up? can u drive it again?

HI.
no the tranny never locked as there would have been skid marks. After it came to a halt it was possible to drive again & I have used it once since but only at low speeds as I am very worried it will happen again. Could the cruise control affect it in any way.

It is a motor/tranny issue. Did you need to restart the motor after the stop, or did it continue to run?

Have you had the codes read? You need to.

Chryslertec is right, it's not your brakes. They cannot work that way.

Hi.
This is a manual transmission & not automatic so if it was the tranny or fial drive then it would have locked & gone into a skid, it has me puzzled as it is driving O.K at present but worried that it might happen again.
