2003 300m engine swap

The current engine threw 2 rods and put a large holes in the block. Looking for a used engine they say only a 2003-2004 will fit the car. What is the difference for newer say 2006-2010 3.5 L that won't allow them to fit in the car

block and heads are the same but the rest is different if U tear it down to block and heads then rebuild it from there it will work.

So I am ok swapping things over, what years and from what cars will the block bolt up to the engine mounts in the 2003. I would like to get the newest with the lowest miles possible.

I also need to change engine in my 03 300m special. What engines will fit? Does it have to b a '03-'04 Chrysler 3.5L? Dodge works too, doesn't it??

02-04 LH platform (M, Trep, LHS, Concord) 3.5 all plug and play drop in 3.5 L engines. The only difference "G" vs "K" is actually in the PCM Programing. (300M Special + 300rpm & 5HP)
99-01 engines are also the same but must be "converted" to work in 02-04 cars.
The newer 05 and up engins are different in mountings and some of the electrics are not compatable with the 04 and earlier cars.

Ok, 2 more questions. How can I tell what year a 3.5 engine is? I was going to buy 1 from this guy but he's not sure if its a 01 or 02 and it defiantly matters because I was gonna put it in my 03. And I was told you have to pull the motor out from underneath the car. Is this true? It doesn't seem right

The motor will come out the top you just need to remove the wipers, all the rear cowling and shock stiffening bracket to allow enough room to gain access to most the bolts to tranny and heater hoses. I put a 2008 3.5 out of a charger in my 2003 300m, I had to swap everything from the 2003 to the 2008. If you have any question just ask I had to pull the motor 3 times to swap out other items, that didn't fit right but it is running good now.
