2007 Aspen Shudder

New owner of 2007 Aspen, less than 200 miles, 20 inch tires. Sat on dealer lot for years. On drive home from out of state noticed vibration and shudder at 65-70 mph. Of course, I didn't notice on test drive as we were under 45 mph. I'm thinking flat spot on tires or out of balance. For starters, take to shop for re-balance. Thoughts?

I'm thinking flat spot on tires also. The car evidently sat on the same spot for almost two years. It's possible that with some warm weather driving, helped along with some mild over inflation, the tires may smooth out, but if not, you'll need to replace them. Before buying new ones, see if there's a warranty.

Car is at local dealer today. I'll keep folks posted on issue as I have seen this discussed on other forums. Tires warranted or not, hopefully the selling dealer will do the right thing. Nice SUV other than the tire issues - but I HATE the look of the 20 inch rims.

Well, rims turned out to be 22". Stupid me for not checking, but how many times does anyone check tire sizes on a new car? 3 of 4 rims had hops in them. After balancing much better, but not as they should be, still have shake. Contacted selling dealer and they offered to split the cost of factory rims. Contractually they had to do nothing but they did the right thing. Should have factory 18" rims and wheels on the car this weekend.

Dealer will probably sell the fancy rims and tires to some other sap at a profit.

Well, called arround and stock rims and tires were close to $2200. Found them from a wholesaler for less (a lot less). Swapped out and viola! Also looked at the 22" rims, noticed that someone had stuck tape weights to the backside of 3 of the rims. No wonder they couldn't be balanced. Oh well, now to sell a nice set of 22s.

A lesson to learn, check everything from your car.Well, issues can be found as you used your car but make sure you have the warranty if this things happen in a later year after the purchase of your car.
