Default 2014 JGC Eco Diesel Fault Codes/ Throttle Warning

Hello,

I have a JGC Eco Diesel that has been in the same shop for what seems like every three months or so. This last time, I was told that the CEL may have come on due to the air filter needing to be changed. (The filter was changed the last time my oil was changed and I still had about 40% oil life left.) Anyway, I bought a new filter at the shop and changed it bc I was desperate.

The service tech came out with a Creader Professional CRP123 and turned the CEL off. I was sitting in the passenger seat and could see the "CRP123" on the side of the devise, so I ordered one online.

The following Monday, the CEL was back on. I plugged the CRP123 in and the following codes showed up:
  • P24A0- Closed loop Diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration control. control limit reached temperature too low
  • P2280- Air Flow Restriction
  • P026C- Fuel Injection Quantity Lower than Expected (this code is constant)
I have been reading up on these codes, and they entail a little more than an air filter check. There were quite a few things from possible air flow leaks to fuel injector replacement. Instead, my dealer kept doing little things like cleaning sensors and changing air filters. Now, this last time I picked it up from the shop (sensor cleaning), the CEL came back on not five minutes after I left the shop, but that’s not the worst part- I went to merge into traffic and found that I was not able to accelerate as I used to, and then my throttle warning light came on.

So, I guess this is more of a cry for help. Has anyone experienced these issues/ fault codes and takes their JGC to a dealer with a competent diesel mechanic that has successfully identified/ diagnosed these issues?

Thanks in advance!

Do you drive only short distances with your vehicle and short operational times? These codes are caused due to certain factors of computer readings and programming for DPF fluid cycle to occur and if those parameters are not met, will cause the troubles of operation that you report along with the CEL/mil coming on. I worked with a diesel motored fellow from a Kia Forum that I also use that had the same symptoms of what you describe. You've got to get that motor well warmed up (running time and open road speed driving fairly often for the computer programmed system to function properly.....NOT a short less than 3 k distance "puddle jumper" type driving habit!

Thanks for your reply! My father drives a diesel as well and stressed the importance of warming up my vehicle in the mornings, so I have always done that. As far as road speed driving, I drive about 20 minutes to work every morning- only 10 minutes of that is highway time and the other 10 is city. Then every other weekend I drive it 200 miles. Sometimes, I may go every three weeks, but not often. Those 200 mile treks is the reason I purchased a diesel. Because of my city driving, do you feel that these codes will continue? Thanks

Other than the big Ram trucks, Diesels are not very popular in the USA...Where are you located? And what are your weather conditions like since this started happening? I am not familiar with the type designations of your diesel you posted of so along with my previous questions, could you please give model/engine size info also?
From a USA viewpoint, it sounds like your driving pattern SHOULD be adequate for the operation of the vehicle..just not sure of what the city driving part may be like, as I live out in dairy farm country with little to no urban driving.

It’s a Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6. I live on the east coast. This issue has been ongoing for months, though. Yes, I feel it should be adequate as well. Oh well, I appreciate the information you provided. I am going to have another shop check the system you mentioned. Thanks again!

OKAY! was also doing more "thinking", my parents have friends that have a big Ram diesel pick up of similar year. They initially had symptoms like yours and turned into DPF quality issue and I think there was a TSB for computer flash update needed to get things working right for theirs. I am no fan of the computerized Diesel motors, even with the changes done to Diesel fuel for lower emissions. Old diesels were "cantankerous" with cold weather operation...BUT today's diesels are worse for overall operation parameters than an equivalent GAS motor!
Good Luck, and let us know how things turn out!

Good to know. Thanks! I will let the service center know to look at this avenue as well. Fingers crosssd that this new place is able to diagnose the issue. If so, I will provide an update.

DPFs are fairly common over here in the UK and a real pain, as they cause so many issues.

Your DPF may not be kicking into "regeneration mode", there is probably a method for manually kicking this off.
You may have done too many short journeys or the car has in it's life at some point and may require the DPF being replaced (Remove it if that is legal where you are and have it removed the ECU)

When your DPF goes into "regeneration mode", one of 2 things should happen, a sort of tapping noise should be able to be heard from outside the car around the area of the DPF or it will smell!

Personally I would start by finding a way to enter the manual regeneration mode for that DPF and start from there on the troubleshooting.

One version of "Manual regeneration" https://www.jeeprenegadeforum.com/fo...-up-today.html

The only other way I can see for doing a "manual regeneration" is with a WiTech diagnostic computer for your car.

Thanks for the manual regeneration info. Just got my Jeep back last night. They had to replace the EGR valve. The only issue now is a faint smell of exhaust in the cabin after replacing the value. I am checking into that. Thanks to both for your input.

Glad to hear that it seems to be taken care of...BUT ODD for EGR Valve, as posted codes did NOT relate to that part. But a "clue" may have been given in your initial post of loss of power to "move out"!
