3.0L Engine Cylinder Heads
 

My 89 Chrysler New Yorker (3.0L) has noisy valve train. As I have rebuilt this engine once before, I am going to replace the cylinder heads with heads from a 93 Dodge Caravan that has roller cam lifters. It appears that this swap should work as I have checked all the engine component parts (part number for 89 vs 93) including the camshaft timing gears. Has anyone tried this before and is there a problem doing this? I orginally posted this in the wrong forum and I apologize for that. Any thoughts, ideas, or comments would be welcomed.

The Earlier heads were the Two-Pack a day smokers.... I believe 92 was the first year for the revised design to address the smoking problem... So they SHOULD be a bolt up swap.

The noisy valvetrain concerns me. All the rollers in the world will not fix a valvetrain noise from inadequate oil supply........Before you rip this up, make sure you have enough oil coming up to the top.....

Thanks for the info Djinn-n-Tonic. It appears that there is plenty of oil. The noise I am hearing sounds like "loose tappets". Per the Chrysler shop manual, they do not provide a measurement between the lifter and the top of the valve at low side of the cam. They only refer to using the thin wire insert and pushing down. Replace the rocker lifter if you cannot get it to seat after releasing with the thin wire. I have a couple that appear to have "excessive" travel when compared to the rest. At this point, I will replace the heads with the roller cam types.
