Fast idle

What would cause my 1996 chrysler to idle at 1500 rpms consistently, this is causing shifting problems with my concorde lx 3.5 liter?

IAC sensor, or motor, easy fix, and fairly cheap too

RE: Fast idle

Thanks for your reply regarding my 96 chrysler concorde, fast idle problem, after many weeks of suferring with this problem, I finally got my mechanic, when he had time to tend my car, it seems I had 4 vacuum leaks, mostly dry-rotted hoses, and my intake plenum gasket was shot and leaking gas, etc, repaired all hoses. replaced plenum intake gasket, changed plugs and wires, but bottom line on the fast idle was replcacing IAC valve, it was frozen open, now my car runs superior, and the cost was miniable, compared to if it had been taken in to the shop, about 50 to 60% less, I can't say enough about my mechanic, his diagnostic machine was his ear and his eyes and his feel for my car. Thanks to everyone who replied it seems all of you were right. Truly Yours danallla
