Flashing engine light it spits and sputters

I love my 2006 Chrysler Pacifica I recently have been dealing with a flashing engine light. When I first crank it up, it acts like its not getting gas and then it spits and sputters. It was only doing it for a short amount of time but now it has been 2 days..I drive a ways to work and don't want to break down..is there anyone who may know the problem or how to fix it?

Modern engines are controlled by computers. When the computer senses that something is wrong, it creates an error code and alerts you of the existence of the error code by illuminating the "check engine light" on the instrument cluster. There are hundreds of potential error codes that the computer can generate. A flashing light means something is seriously wrong and requires immediate attention.
To find out what is wrong a technician attaches a code reader to the car to read the error codes in the car's computer. There is no point in trying to guess what the problem is. Take the car to a service facility and they will run the proper diagnostic procedures. Many parts stores will read the codes for free but their code readers may not be sophisticated enough to get all the codes in there. Parts stores generally don't perform repairs so that may not solve your problem.
