When you post a question please include year model, engine size and mileage with your symptoms. It may not get you an exact answer, but will will surely get us closer than no information.

Since the car is a 2000 model year it really is not that old. I'm not sure exactly what it is by your description of the problem. Sounds temperature based though whatever the problem is. Are there any check engine lights on and have you had someone check the check engine light code? Any check engine light code helps narrow down the problem in a hurry.

My daughters Mazda 626 had a check engine light on with an EGR valve code(Auto Zone checked it for free). The guy's on the Mazda forum said that most likely it was the throttle body was dirty/gummed up and that the EGR valve did not need to be replaced due to they rarely ever go bad on the Mazda 626's. I cleaned out the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, sprayed the air/oxygen sensors off with sensor cleaner, put a new throttle body gasket on, put everything back together and the check engine light went off. The Mazda ran better too. This was a $20.00 fix.

I mention this due to your problem could be some sensor being dirty or bad.

thanks the check engine light comes on and had checked at autozone and they coded at P1391 CMP or CKP intermittent condition.
also the check engine light does go off on its own was told it does that after 5 starts

The symptoms point to a crank sensor, but I would have to see live data to be 100%.

quigsharon10 12-21-2010 02:08 PM

Had the crank sensor repaced already, @ Dodge garage in town waiting to here news will let you know my friend thinks this all leads to a flexplate with the history of the last 6 months

If the flexplate did split in the center then you will see the crank sensor drop in and out on the scan tool data.
