New Yorker overheating, others probs.

Hi all. Bad news today. Living in snowy NW PA, I wrecked my baby today. It's a 96 New Yorker. After the ordeal was over and I was pulled from the ditch, I started to drive slowly home. About a half mile later my left front tire blew. Changed it, and 100 yards later the spare blew as well. When I wrecked, I became slightly airborn and I believe I hit sliding left. The outer tie rod ends are bent, along with the lower lower A-Arm and front sway bar. Strut needs replaced too. All that stuff I can replace, but the big question is, why did it overheat suddenly? It's never gone above the proper temp, but it skyrocketed and pinned the needle. Mind you, it's 28 degrees here now and was windy/snowy. I wasn't moving fast, maybe 5-10 mph, but the fans can keep the engine cool in sitting traffic during hotter months trouble free. The hoses are all on, radiator isn't ruptured and there is fluid in the tank. Its' baffling me. Any ideas? Kyle
