Noise from Sebring Accelerator Mechanism
 

There is a squeaking/scraping noise coming from my brother's 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible whenever you depress the accellerator pedal. In an effort to fix this problem, the motor mounts and the ball joints were recently replaced by a Chrysler dealer. However, $1800 later the noise is still occurring. The dealer now says that it is probably in the steering column and it would likely be too expensive to repair. Since the noise only occurs when you depress the accelerator, it does not seem likely that the steering column is causing the problem. Do you have any other ideas about what could be causing the problem?

check the throttle cable assembly where it mounts to the throttle body of the engine. It could be the cables it could be the shaft of the throttle plate

1. This thread is 15 years old. It's very unlikely that the guy who posted this question is still worried about it.

2. If they were looking at engine mounts, ball joints and steering column to solve the problem, the noise was not likely to be originating from throttle cables and throttle plate shafts. Apparently there was some heavy movement causing the noise. The lack of responses for 15 years is likely because it's basically impossible to diagnose "strange noises" via a post on the internet.
