Oil Consumption
 

Has anyone else had problems with Chrysler engines using too much oil and having to constantly add oil prior to changing oil? Is it true that Chrysler vehicles are allowed to consume 1 quart of oil for every 1,000 miles? That is what the dealership is telling my inlaws. 1st father inlaw bought brand new sebring convertable limited with 2.7 liter engine and was having to constantly add oil. He took it back many times but none of the fixes worked. They finally told him as long as it consumes no more than 1 qt per 1,000 miles chrysler considers that normal. He traded in shortly after for what he always drove - Chevrolet. My mother in law purchased 2007 Sebring convertable with 3.5L engine and now it is starting to consume oil. She took back a few time and they told her the same thing. Is this the policy for Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota, etc. or just Chrysler? Not going to get too many repeat buyers with this policy. Anyone else have any issue with this?

i have worked for ford dealers all my life an that is true but i never bought it most all my cars never needed oil between oil changes it is a way to get rid of you

NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION: Below are industry standards for normal engine oil consumption:

Mileage below 50,000: Normal oil consumption is one quart for each 1,000 miles driven.
Mileage above 50,000: Normal oil consumption is one quart for each 750 miles driven.

It's NOT acceptable to me BUT,they won't make any warranty repairs unless it is excessive. My 175K truck only uses 1.5 quarts every 3K. It may help you to use your own oil from the parts store. Don't use that bulk stuff the lube places (and many dealers) use.
