Power steering pump question???

I think it is my power steering pump that needs to be replaced. It whines when I start it and when I accelerate in park it gets louder. Is my thoughts accurate about the power steering pump is the problem? Ok if so, What type of fluid does it need to be replaced with? Done some research on here and I have read that it may need ATF-4? Is that right? Last thing. Does anyone have a picture guide or a detailed direction of how to replace the power steering pump? Thanks for everyone's help! Justin

Yeah ATF4 is what we use now. Is it low? Do you have a leak? Check your steering rack where the boots are and see if it's leaking. I could post some pics but the forum isn't set up right and you can't see any detail in the pic attachements.

I replaced the power steering pump and it is still whinning. A little less noise but still making the noise. Does anyone know what it could be? I think i read somewhere it might be the filter but before i go after it I want to see if anyone thinks it is as well. Hope someone knows about this and can give me direction on what it might be.

It will take a day or so for all the air to get purged.

Have you checked anything else other than the power steering pump? Are you sure it's not the alternator or A/C compressor or a bad idler pulley? A mechanic's stethoscope can be very helpful in finding something like that.

The thread is about the power steering pump, not the fuel pump.

The ATF-4 is need for the power steering pump that needs to be replaced. If you want to replace the power steering pump withput ATF-4 then it is possible but that give not good and the perfect advantages of is. So it is good to replace the power steering pump with ATF-4.
