Ridiculously High Oil Pressure

Hey, I have a sealed can oil filter that you buy a new filter every time you change your oil. Not that you just replace the filter, but the whole can. And my oil pressure is through the roof. It broke my oil gauge and blows the seal on the can. Any suggestions?

There should be a "blow by" in the engine somewhere that will allow the filter to be bypassed if it plugs up. Yours might be not working properly. If you've got a manual, you might want to look that up.
The good news is that it sounds like the oil pump is working fine.

Actually, it sounds to me like there may be a problem with the filter itself. My grandma's 1960 Pontiac Bonneville had one of those toilet paper filters, and it would occasionally plug and explode seals.

Yes, I am working on a 1947 desoto s-11, inline six. I have replaced the filter a couple of times too.
