Tips for Starting an Engine After 20yrs
 

I've got a Chrysler 400 that came out of a Chrysler Cordoba and I would guess the engine has not turned over in 20+ yrs. Does anyone have recommendations on the best procedure for starting it up after its been sitting so long.

I'm assuming my approach would be to drain whatever oil is currently sitting in the oil pan(if its even of any oil consistency still). Then fill it with some cheap oil. Remove all the spark plugs and just turn the engine over with the starter for a little bit to get the oil back up on the rings. Then after that I'll probably check for compression and then get it setup to try and actually start it. If it starts then I'll let it run for a little bit and then drain the cheap oil and put some decent stuff in it.

I don't foresee any issues with the actual engine other than the fact that its a lean burn. :( That will be the next post. What's it take to remove the lean burn.

Spray a little oil into the cylinders when you remove the plugs. Try turning it by hand with a breaker bar applied to the nut at the front of the crank before you use the starter motor.
