I have a 2012 Town and Country and last week while driving home from work I got the battery warning. I was originally told it was the alternator which would be an easy fix and since I have the Max Care unlimited miles warranty it would cost me only $100. They did some more testing and found that the PCM also needed replacement. The dealership told that me the PCM is out of stock and will take 3-4 weeks to get one. Unfornutaley the Max care unlimited warranty doesn't cover for a car rentals after seven years so now i'm in this position that the repairs will be covered but I will have to go a month without my van.

I looked online and it seems that many places sell the PCM's but I they are not Mopar approved. What are more options? Have others had problems with backordered parts?

I would call another dealership in the area and ask if they have the PCM and if not when they would be able to get it. Have you checked with some of the mopar online stores? They are typically associated with physical CJDR dealerships and would be mopar approved. They should have either an email address or phone number to contact them to determine if the part is available. They will ask for the VIN.

If the part is not in stock or in the local warehouse it would need to be ordered/shipped from the manufacturer which is 2-3 days. The 3-4 weeks is understandable if the pcm is on national back-order. It may be another dealer has the part in stock but is reluctant to ship it to your dealer as they will not get any money from the sale.
