Is there a switch or button to reset the `Check engine Light' ?

No, there is not. A battery disconnect will usually erase the codes and turn it off. BUT, if there IS an actual problem in the system it will come right back on next time the fault is detected. This could happen immediately, after a couple trips or even in a few days.

Keep in mind...very important! If you are trying to turn off the light to pass emissions testing or inspection, it will reset your CARB Readiness Monitors status. You will fail emissions testing even if you succeeded in turning off the CEL. Chances are the CEL will be back on before the PCM re-runs and passes the CARB monitors. These can take DAYS to pass depending on your driving type and distance.

Long story short...if you have a CEL on...get it fixed.

However, if you did something silly like left your gas cap off or set the code yourself by disconnecting something with the ignition switch on, then a battery disconnect is what you can do. No need to get a diagnosis if you know what you did.
