Question PT Cruiser - Power Control Module

I am desperate for information about my beloved PT Cruiser. She's a 2005 and my dream car. She's only got about 76,000 miles on her.

I was at a red light and she died on me. The air conditioner was working, the automatic windows were working, the radio is working, but she won't start.

My local mechanic said there was an issue with the Power Control Module. And they don't work on that. I've called scores of people who say they don't do it. I had one business who told me they COULD fix it, but it sat in their parking lot for 9 days while they did nothing. I got a ride out there and saw two young kids sitting in the office who said my car was a nightmare and they had called the dealership and they couldn't fix it. Apparently they were going to send it to the dealership to be fixed, then when the dealership wouldn't work on it, they just let it sit in their parking lot until I went out there. I had it towed home.

Others tell me to junk it, that PT Cruisers are pieces of crap. But this has been the best car I have ever had. I don't care if they made 5 million PT Cruisers and they were all junkers, MY PT Cruiser has been the best! And I would like to repair her.

I am disabled and on Social Security. I'm having to walk everywhere and I've started passing out again.

I am at my wit's end. I've had a car since I was 15. And now I'm 62.

Any suggestions?

I guess the first question is, where in general are you? Maybe someone local could come take a look at it. A scan tool would be helpful to see if the PCM is still talking.

I'm in Alabama. My local mechanics who are very good, originally told me they could not fix Power Control Modules. So I started calling around. Even the dealership wouldn't touch it, said they don't work on PT Cruisers older than 2008. A couple guys said they could send the PCM off to be rebuilt, which would take a 2=3 week turnaround and then they, themselves, are 2-3 months behind in even getting to something. And the people who said they COULD do it, even if I could wait the whole summer to have transportation, the wrecker services don't want to tow her somewhere 20-30 minutes away.

It has been a nightmare.

Thank you for your reply. But yeah, I've talked to multiple people in this area and the general consensus is that I should "get something else to drive."

does it crank?
and if it does what does it sound like?
my thought process is, 76k is early for mileage, but it's ~18 years old, so the timing belt could have let go.
