RE: puff of white smoke and i am new

Welcome to the forum, Lisa. It's a little hard to diagnose car problems from thousands of miles away, but it might be caused by oil dripping on a hot exhaust pipe. That would tend to be more toward the front of the car than the middle, but it would be toward the "centre" when considered relative to side to side.
How have you noticed the puff? From outside the car?
You might want to see if you can inspect the entire exhaust system to see if it shows evidence of either oil dripping on it or contact with something else under there. Maybe you caught a plastic bag while driving and that's hooked on there somewhere.
Generally speaking, only the exhaust system (including the catalytic converters) gets hot enough to make something smoke like that.
Are you sure it's smoke and not steam? A leak in the cooling system will produce steam that some people might mistake for smoke.
Let us know what you find.
