Chrysler 300c 3.5 v6 2005 coolant leak at back of engine
Hi I have a chrysler 300c 3.5 v6 2005 and my fan relay packed in and caused me to overheat where I was I couldn't pull over for 2 miles by the time I pulled over the car suddenly hit the red and the engine turned off I started it again and tried to add water to bring the temperature down but it was coming out the rear of the engine as fast as I was putting it in I thought the engine had gone but I couldn't see behind the engine as I have an lpg conversion that takes up the full space between the engine and bulk head so I got my phone out and squeezed my hand in from the side and saw water coming out at the top of my gear box once it had stopped I put my hand in again to find I had blown an expansion/core plug at the gearbox bellhousing I will add pics I'm going to try and fit a new plug but I'm going to take off the air intake and access it from the top to save me having to drop the gearbox/transmission to fix it I will let you all know how I get on
[QUOTE=Jimbob69;125033]Hi I have a chrysler 300c 3.5 v6 2005 and my fan relay packed in and caused me to overheat where I was I couldn't pull over for 2 miles by the time I pulled over the car suddenly hit the red and the engine turned off I started it again and tried to add water to bring the temperature down but it was coming out the rear of the engine as fast as I was putting it in I thought the engine had gone but I couldn't see behind the engine as I have an lpg conversion that takes up the full space between the engine and bulk head so I got my phone out and squeezed my hand in from the side and saw water coming out at the top of my gear box once it had stopped I put my hand in again to find I had blown an expansion/core plug at the gearbox bellhousing I will add pics I'm going to try and fit a new plug but I'm going to take off the air intake and access it from the top to save me having to drop the gearbox/transmission to fix it I will let you all know how I get on the second picture looks as if the hole is distorted but this is just with the water escaping out of it I've also posted a pic once it had dried and you can see the plug has moved in its seating enough to cause the system to empty
Since posting this i have repaired the core/ expansion plug by taking off the air intake plenum and lying over the engine to reach the back of the engine as im only 5ft 6 and couldn't reach it any other way lol but it was really easy to do it that way without having to split the engine and gearbox as i was told id have to since that an idiot ran into my car crushing the front wing and cracked my water reserve bottle i didnt notice this straight away so the company that hit the car aggreed to take the car and fix it so a lad turned up jumped in my car and drove away I got a call 15 minutes layer from the lad saying that the car had overheated and cut out and wouldn't start so I had it collected and brought back to my house to find out the reserve bottle was cracked and the water had leaked out completely empty the lad had kept driving the car until it cut out due to bursting the right side cylinder head gasket as now it pressurises the water system as soon as its started and its miss firing on cylinder 5 so now I've told them that this now needs fixed which they are now willing to do and pay for infull so here is hoping that all goes well this time
