To pull the codes on the early models like you have you can do it by doing what is called the key dance. All of the key codes are 2 digits and are flashed by the check engine light. To do the key dance it is done this way: turn the key on then off then on then off then on with no pauses.

I would pull a spark plug and see if it is wet or dry. Wet - fuel is there but no spark.
Dry - no fuel and possible no spark. Turn the key on to the "RUN" position and listen for the fuel pump running. Check the fuel pump fuse. And I assume that there is fuel in the tank? Don't laugh. I've been there a couple of times with an empty tank.
Also use the timing light to see if it triggers when the engine is turning over.
You may also have have a ECU/ECM (Engine control unit/module) problem.
