RE: Idle speed / oil pressure light

I have 2 V-6 2.5 engine 1999 128k & 2000 175K
both seem to idle less than 750 when warm and the oild lights come on when nice and warm.
I added 10-30 and the 1999 with 128 k oil light pretty much did not come back on..

THe 2000 with 175 k still kep the light coming on just after it reached operating temp about 10 miles from home and it's noticable CUZ i need to get on the freeway and i susualy end up waiting at a metering ramp light, even with 10- 40 oil still is an issue. But now it seems ok, but it's also slow / hard starting in the -5 degree F overnight weather. but the oil light is not coming on at all.

Would you think My idle air motor/valve may need cleaing. last time i had the throttle body off it semmed to be normal in terms of carbon deposits for 175k.

RE: Idle speed / oil pressure light

Johno - I am running late for work so I will be brief - My idle speed is around 500 rpm once it warms up. Chrysler told me due to the mileage on my car to run Castrol 20W-50 oil and I haven't seen my oil light come back since. I dokeep my car in my garage at night so I don't know how it would start if left outside with that oil, New Jersey doesn't get that cold lately.

If you still have the original idle speed control valve installed I would replace it with a Chrysler part and clean the throttle body and the seat for the valve, the valvemay look ok but that doesn't mean it opening and closing at the proper temperatures, changing this valve madea big different in my idle speed - it runs like a new car - especially in the cold !

Good Luck
