Snow Tires for Grand Voyager
 

I have a 2008 model UK Grand Voyager CRD 2.8 fitted as standard with Yokohama 225/65R16 100H tires. I'm going to be using it a lot in the snow this winter (skiing). Would I get significantly improved traction in the mountains using snow tires, compared to the Yokohamas, and if so can anyone recommend some?


They would need to also be OK for high speed (up to 90mph) use for long distances as it is a commute of several hours on fast roads before I get to the mountains.

Hi Nigel, I've been using Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 for a while on my Grand Voyager and they work great. I live on the North Pennies so spend a lot of winter time driving on snow covered country roads here and up into Scotland and have never found myself in a situation where I though I'd end up stuck.

Braking in snow and on wet or slush covered roads is good, as is cornering, they also work well in the dry. They're also quiet and wear on dry roads is very good.

I'm going to ski in Austria in the new year and wanted to know how my grand voyager will behave on snow. With or without snow tyres/chains.

I have been using Nt-SN2 Nitto tires for some time now. I'm very impress and content with its performance and value.

Well I've never used chains on my Voyager however, performance on summer tires in the snow was dreadful. I've had both Continental's and Michelin's up front and on both occasions it was beaten by even the slightest amount of snow or even heavy frost. Therefore, for where I live and drive I wouldn't entertain not having snow tires during the winter months.

Now, overall with snow tires it performs okay in the snow, although not the best 2 wheel drive vehicle I've ever had but its usable. However, something to note, with summer tires at the rear I found that on compacted snow the ABS often kicked in furthermore, the rear is prone to breaking loose although not alarmingly so, it can become tiring if you're driving for any length of time, therefore I went with a cheep snow tire on the rears.

What about getting an all weather tires like nitto tire Motivo at least you can use it even summer time and winter.
