Trans Stuck in first gear for 20 miles???
#11
2006 Pacifica.
Replaced motor mounts and radiator fans, both were suspects in the "howling" noise.
Car still makes the sound whenever you accelerate at low speeds. Not noticeable if at highway speeds. a growl or howl type noise as you accelerate.
thanks

Thank you for the info!
I have determined the F35 recall as a possible culprit. Please contact your local Chrysler dealer to determine if this has been completed as the howling noise could be attributed to the issue with he F35 recall. Essentially, an engine connecting rod bearing may produce this noise.
Certainly best to speak with your Chrysler dealer for further handling.

The F35 recall has nothing to do with your transmission being stuck in 1st gear for 20 miles.
F35 is for small amount of Pacificas may have been assembled with sand-like debris on the number two connecting rod bearing journal of the crankshaft. This can cause excessive rod bearing wear and result in engine failure.
If your vehicle is involved in the recall the number two connecting rod bearing and crankshaft journal must be inspected. If either the connecting rod bearing or crankshaft journal is damaged, a long block engine must be installed.
You may access the self-service recall site on the internet to check on your vehicle's involvement in any recalls that are published. Simply go to your brand website Owners page: http://www.Chrysler.com/en/owners and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) where appropriate.
Sounds like your vehicle went into "Limp Mode" and that is why it wouldn't go out of 1st gear. There are many reasons the transmission does this to protect itself for becoming more damaged.
First, have your trans fluid level checked.
Check for any Fault Codes, (im assuming a check engine light was illuminated)
Get the codes and post them, we can review further at that time.

Tranny has been fine since the ONE occurrence, the "howling" thing persists though. Always at lower speeds between 2 and 3,000 rpms. Almost like an intake manifold leak somewhere??
Only error codes are Gascap and the related evaporation code. Dealer says they need to drop the gas tank to repair the code.
No gas smell and mileage seems the same, so it's really that "howling" that has be concerned.
thanks

Noticed today that Howling noise appears to be happening at 2500-3000 rpm. If you gently accelerate, no howl -- but if you give it any push then the howl comes in at about 2500-300 then stops. When the trans shifts, noise will come back at the 2500 rpm level.
Any thoughts?
